We’re looking for volunteers within Putnam county to spread the word about an opportunity that will help your community and environment in a variety of different ways.
NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research & Development Authority) is investing to help home owners and business owners throughout NY State upgrade to more energy efficient heating and cooling technology (geothermal, heat pumps, solar hot water, etc.). Westchester Community Opportunity Program, Inc. (WestCOP) has been awarded a grant from NYSERDA to operate one of its Clean Heating and Cooling Community Campaigns over the next two years in Putnam County, and they have sub-contracted with Bright Energy Services to implement this upcoming campaign.
As part of this campaign, we’re looking for volunteers like you to join our Clean Heating and Cooling Team, which will support local homeowners and businesses in transitioning off high cost heating fuel (propane and heating oil). This transition will also serve to lower community greenhouse emissions, reduce energy bill costs, and increase year-round comfort.
All we’re asking is that you help get the word out in your community about this program and work with us to evaluate the vendors who will apply to install the new heating and cooling systems. Your time commitment would be at most a few hours a week over the next few weeks.
No need for any technical background. We’re planning training sessions for you to learn about these emerging technologies, sustainable practices, how to get the word out, and community building. Volunteers will also help us plan and coordinate the exciting launch event party (tentatively October 10) where we will bring the community together (volunteers, installers, and the public) to explain the benefits of upgrading.
This is your opportunity to get more involved in your community, network with like-minded volunteers, learn more about renewable and sustainable energy technologies, and make a positive contribution to our environment!
