The sha’ir of the Bedouins which is the poet singer uses the rabab during songs of love and heroism. The rabab is played by resting the instrument on ones knee in the vertical position and using the bow as in a violin. The bow string is coated with rosin which allows it to grab the metal string of the rabab and produce sound via vibration. The bow string is made of real horse hair. The Rabab is 34.5 inches long and has a soundboard made with goatskin held by a wood frame.
