1979 YAMAHA SR500

1979 Yamaha SR500 custom brat/ bobber build. It's 95% complete. Needs wiring harness built to complete it, get it started and running again and out on the road.

New parts everywhere and a tremendous amount of time and work went into this build. Please take a look at my VERY detailed description.
In its current state it has been placed in 2 local bike shows and won best in show 2 years in a row.
Since its assembly it has never been ridden, just stored.
New parts listed are absolutely NEW. It is an incredibly clean and tight build.

During its initial assembly, the bike was started, ran and shifted through its gears all well. The motor was then removed for work to proceed and later re-installed. It has not been run since. Frame has been drained and dry of oil. Motor has also been drained of the majority of oil.
I would recommend some basic tuning and checking before and after starting (fluids, valves and camchain tension re-checked and adjusted if necessary, clutch adjustment, any throttle adjustment or carb jetting etc). This is minor maintenance before and after starting and before riding.
It has a clean NYS title in previous owner's name and ready for transfer to new buyer.

FRAME:
-1979 SR500 Frame was de-tabbed, cut, shortened and modified. All unnecessary parts, tabs, mounts, passenger footrests, exhaust mounts, etc. were removed for the cleanest build possible. Frame was then welded on, capped and modded as well as re-tabbed for specific components and mounts. Neck and neck angle was never touched. Shock mounts were never moved.
-Frame and swingarm were completely media blasted and professionally powder coated
-Swingarm was re-conditioned and new All Balls Roller bearing swingarm kit installed
-Custom aluminum skid plate installed with all stainless hardware
-New Aluminum oil temp gauge / dipstick

FORKS / SUSPENSION:
-Forks were completely disassembled, thoroughly cleaned, new seals and dust caps were installed. Forks were also lowered 3" using new Hugh's Handbuilt lowering spacers. New modified Progressive fork springs and fluid
-Fork lowers were shaved of all fender mounts, media blasted and professionally powder coated
-Fork trees and handlebar mounts were media blasted and professionally powder coated. All available hardware was upgraded to new stainless steel allen type. New All Balls roller neck bearings were installed
-New Progressive suspension 12.5" rear shocks installed with new hardware

WHEELS:
-Stock mag wheels were media blasted and professionally powder coated. All bearings were replaced with new All Balls sealed cartridge bearings.
-Front and Rear wheels wear New vintage style Firestone Deluxe Champion tires 4.0 w/ new tubes. All professionally installed to ensure no nicks or damage to finishes.

BRAKES:
-Front breaking is provided by a custom Brembo Brake set-up that includes a Brembo 320mm floating front brake rotor, Brembo Gold caliper, new custom billet aluminum rotor spacer and incredibly stout, new custom cnc'd caliper mount. All mounting hardware is stainless allen type. This upgrade provides INCREDIBLE , 1-finger stopping power and "track bike" improved breaking manipulation. It also looks badass!
-Vintage Honda motocross front brake lever/11mm master cylinder for upgraded Brembo system. It was re-conditioned, polished and mounted with stainless allen hardware. New Custom braided stainless front brake line w/ fittings fabricated and fitted
-Rear breaking is provided by the stock brake caliper and rotor, which were re-conditioned and polished. All mounts and braces have been media blasted and professionally powder coated. Custom stainless brake lines and hardware was fabricated. Rear master cylinder was also re-conditioned and polished. All available hardware upgraded to new stainless steel allen type

TANK / FENDER:
-New MOTO ROCK aluminum mustang tank w/ new gas cap. Tank is imported and specifically built for the SR. It's very hard to find these days and quite expensive. Tank was fitted, properly prepped, body filled & professionally painted Audi TT Nimbus Grey Pearl. It was not internally coated as it is aluminum and will never rust! This tank has never seen gas.
-New Kustom Tech In-Line brass petcock and tank fitting installed for the slickest, smallest fuel delivery package. Never seen gas.
-Rear fender is a custom modded stock SR rear fender. Media blasted, filled and professionally painted Audi TT Nimbus Grey Pearl

MOTOR:
-1979 SR500 motor (matching motor for this frame) was completely professionally media blasted. Rocker boxes and all rocker hardware was polished. The motor was then completely high temp clear coated and jugs were painted w/ high temp black paint.
-Engine mounts media blasted and professionally powder coated. Mounting hardware replaced with stainless steel allen type
-Any gaskets, O-rings, seals, washers etc. needing immediate replacement or showed any signs of wear and available were replaced.
-All side covers were removed, thoroughly cleaned, professionally media blasted and powder coated. All gaskets, seals, o-rings, etc. were replaced. All cover mounting hardware was replaced with polished stainless steel allen type
-Stator was professionally re-wound by RM Stator out of Canada
-Oil filter cover was polished and all O-rings replaced. New oil filter installed
-New custom braided stainless steel main oil line constructed w/very high quality custom machined and aircraft type fittings
-New braided stainless steel high flow dual feed rocker box oil lines installed
-New K&N crankcase breather filter
-New Mikuni VM34 carburetor with new manifold/mount, new stainless allen mounting hardware, new K&N racing filter, new Motion Pro throttle cable
-New alloy cam chain adjuster cover
-New aluminum tachometer blanking plug installed
-No Tachometer. Could be later installed by buyer
-No speedometer. Could be later installed by buyer

NOTE:

EXHAUST SYSTEM:
-OEM / original header pipe shortened, media blasted, primed and coated with ceramic paint
-New shorty reverse cone megaphone muffler installed w/ new gaskets and new OEM mounting hardware at motor

DRIVETRAIN:
-Original front and rear sprocket in excellent condition. Mounting hardware polished and replaced when available
-New custom aluminum drive sprocket cover w/ integrated chain roller / tensioner
-New heavy duty 530 gold chain

HAND CONTROLS:
-New Biltwell Tracker Bars w/ New Pro Grip 713 superbike grips
-New MSR AOF clutch perch / lever w/ built in decomp lever. New Motion-Pro Clutch cable
-New Fly Racing Mini Billet aluminum Kill switch
-New Motion Pro Aluminum quick turn throttle w/ new Motion Pro throttle cable

FOOT CONTROLS / SEAT:
-New modified motocross footrests. Media blasted, primed, painted and installed, factory footrest mounts were also media blasted, professionally powder coated and re-installed with new dampers and stainless steel hardware
-Handmade seat pan and custom, professionally upholstered seat
-OEM brake, shifter and kick-start lever have been polished and re-installed with new rubber and stainless steel allen hardware

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:
-Stator was professionally re-wound by RM Stator out of Canada
-Handmade electrical components box/tray fabbed and mounted tightly under seat. Media blasted and professionally powder coated
-OEM/ original ignition coil, CDI box and regulator/rectifier included
-Battery Eliminator / Capacitor included. This bike was designed to be as bare bones and open as possible. It does NOT require a battery. It runs using its own motor driven electrical system and a capacitor. This is part of the beauty of the SR's.
-New 2-position ignition switch with key. New Ignition mount modded and fit to frame with stainless allen hardware
-New Fly Racing Mini Billet aluminum Kill switch
-Mini 4.5" Bate's style headlight, media blasted, painted and installed on a custom fabbed headlight bracket. All available hardware upgraded to new stainless steel allen type
-I fabbed a basic steel license plate bracket with integrated light mount. It includes a Rodder Alloy finned bullet taillight. It was mocked up on the bike for a show and removed, but would need to be permanently mounted in some fashion if you chose to use it. It's included with the bike.
-No turn signals. Could be later installed by buyer
NOTE:
A basic wiring harness needs to be fabricated to complete the electrical system for this bike. Some, but not all of the original wiring harness is included. Important leads from stator and other components are intact and completely available. I planned on completing the harness, but no longer have the space and time to do so. It will be up to the buyer to complete this.
