North Plank Road Tavern, a family‑owned 60‑seat fine dining restaurant in a historic Newburgh building, is seeking a hands-on Working Chef to lead our small BOH team. We offer a stable schedule, and meaningful creative input for a chef who loves cooking and leading from the line.
Responsibilities:
Daily line cooking and BOH leadership
Menu development, recipe creation, and monthly pairing dinners
Food costing, purchasing, inventory, and kitchen cost management
Proper food rotation, sanitation, and safety compliance
Plating, butchering (meat & fish), baking, and desserts
Hiring, training, and mentoring kitchen staff
Qualifications:
5+ years progressive culinary/kitchen management experience, or talented sous chef looking to make the transition to chef
Strong classic technique and fine dining background
Reliable, professional, and easygoing leadership style
Ability to accommodate dietary requests (gluten‑free, no garlic, etc.)
ServSafe certification preferred
Knowledge of food, wine, pairings, and industry trends
Schedule & Benefits:
5‑day, 40‑hour work week (Wed–Sun)
Dinner service only (4:30–9 PM)
Two weeks paid vacation
Closed on July 4th, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day
Open on New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s Day, and Mother’s Day
Salary: $55,000–$65,000, based on experience
