1966 Ford Ranchero
Most people don’t even know what a Ranchero is or that Chevy copied it with the El Camino. 1966 was a one-year body style, and the final year on the Falcon platform before it transitioned to the Fairlane platform, so this one-year model is rarely ever seen.
This has been a on again/off again project of mine for the past 19 years. Prior to my ownership it lived on a farm in Middletown MD. It didn’t look like much when I got it but I thought it would be a great project for a vintage work truck. I got it road worthy and drove it for about 5 years as a work truck, in fact drove it to Massachusetts to pick up the engine that’s now in it, then decided to restore and modify it.
It's gone through a lot of changes since I took ownership, here are the major ones:
Painted Boss 302 Grabber Yellow with black Shelby Stripes
Custom made hood scoop and Shelby Racing Mirrors
NOS 1968 Falcon Front Bumper & re-chromed rear bumper
1967 Ranchero Taillights
Custom door panels, new Carpet, Dash Pad and Bucket Seats from a 1985 T-Bird
New Tinted Windshield
5.0 engine from 1992 Lincoln Mark VII with EFI from 1986 Mustang.
In Tank Fuel Pump Conversion
Borg Warner T-5 tranny from 1986 T-Bird Turbo Coupe
Lowered Front control Arms AKA Shelby Drop with new springs and full front end rebuild
Heavy Duty Front Sway bar from 1968 Torino GT
Borgeson Power Steering box
Aftermarket Tilt Column
Custom Made Sub Frame Connectors.
Front Disc Brakes 1972 Ford Mustang
Rear Disc Brakes and 9” Posi rear Lincoln Versailles
Spent the last dozen years or so getting it put together and finally last fall got it back on the road again, but there is still more that needs to be done. As I have two other projects that need my attention I’d like to see if I can find a new caretaker to take up the torch before the snow flies. The BF Goodrich’s I bought when I got it are now dried and cracking and need to be replaced, as such I don’t drive it very far. So, the first order of business is new treads and a wheel alignment. Interior needs finishing, I was going to make a custom console and recover the seats with some Vintage look Mach I TMI upholstery. The Mustang EFI is rather passé at this point and was going to swap in a more modern efi conversion. The paint which is now 14 years old is showing it’s age but still looks fine from 10’. Some bubbles at the lower door, one spot on the passenger b pillar and some crazing in a small spot on the hood. Door weatherstripping was replaced but the vent windows still need doing as they leak a bit. Plus, other small odds and ends, but then again there are always those on any project.
So, if you think you want to take on this project reach out so we can talk. I won’t sell this to anyone sight unseen, offering to send me payment in advance, via Bitcoin, S&H Green Stamps, etc.. Only serious inquiries will be responded to. Send a message through the system and I will send you my info. If the car is still listed it is still available. If you don’t hear from me it’s because you didn’t sound sincere.
