To the poster of "healthcare - Warwick (unknown location)", I actually agree with much of what you said. I also feel that healtcare insurance is a responsibility. As the main provider for my family I am responsible for providing food, clothing, housing and healtcare insurance. But I also disagree with some of the statements you made.
You said..... "Now that being said, the insurance companies do not play fair and cheat their customer’s every day. This should be changed. What other industry gets away with defrauding their customers as a matter of policy (paper work games, ect)." Can you give us evidence as to how insurance companies cheat their customers and how they don't play fair, and please not just talking points or opinions from the left, but actual verifiable evidence. I believe that this administration and the left want to demonize the insurance companies in order to get this through. Overall, the profit margin for health insurance companies was a modest 3.4 percent over the past year, according to data provided by Morningstar. That ranks 87th out of 215 industries and slightly above the median of 2.2 percent. Let the facts speak for themselves.
You also stated ....." Next comes fraud. We have been told there is massive fraud taking place. If it is already classified as fraud then these activities are already illegal. If they already know it is massive, then they don’t need any more tools to detect it. What we need is enforcement and some real hard core penalties." I agree with you 100% on this and why isn't this administration doing something about it. Didn't the President reference the fraud and waste in his speech. Please Mr. President and Congress, show the American people how you will do this so we can believe in you.
Also, you said....."What I would like to see is a phased approach. First pass regulations on the insurance companies to address the most pressing issues. Then pass some laws to protect people from medical bankruptcies. They reformed the bankruptcy laws a couple of years ago in favor of businesses, now is the time to take care of the people. Next, come down on fraud like a hammer." Excellent! I have stated in the past we need regulation something like the airlines industry and the nuclear industry.
The House and Obama is pushing hard to have a vote on their bill tomorrow. They will be strong arming all the Dems sitting on the fence. See the following article from AP.

Warwick stated in their reply......"This health care change is a start. It'll likely need to be amended regardless of the form it takes. And I believe it to be in the best interests of a secure, Capitalist free American society to view health care as a right." I don't believe we should start this unless we get it right. Like you said, any way you look at it, it's going to cost a bundle, and it will be a very big bundle. This is too big an issue to make mistakes and try and correct them down the road. Unlike the Stimulus Bill, lets take our time and make sure we are doing the right thing.
Hey Warwick, just wondering about that "Capitalist free American society" statement. I thinks maybe you are tipping your hand. Hugs
