To the poster who wonders what the turn out will be. Firstly, what is the "normal" standard you refer to? Secondly, elections that are neither NY governors, Senate or congressional seats ( next year) or non Presidential elections are always low turn out.
No doubt this poster is still trying to spin the why Obama won-is-because-of-blacks-voting line. And again, it is wrong.
If all eligible African Americans voted, they still wouldn't constitute a large enough voting block to affect a national election.
As for pointing to how many you may think voted for Obama because he's African American, you'd no easier find the answer to that, then you would the question as to how many caucasions, didn't vote for him, because he's African American. But that's old news.
New news is that as goes the cycle of elections, Republicans won in NJ and W. Virginia. Not surprising as the flow of support changes when one party has the congress and white house. How this all plays out for 2010 is too early to tell.
As to my or anyone's legitimacy to post or the degree to which personal attacks are levied against others, I think the answer to that is fairly obvious.
You can scroll back as far as you like to see just how many broad stroke assumptions are made about liberals, socialism, name calling etc. It's there.
With respect to offering specifics, well they've been offered many times.
I see nothing other then opposition, metaphors and platitudes copied and pasted or mimicked from tv radio personalities. And our friend elsewhere is so assured that liberals are blind to the two party corruption and feeding from the same trough issue, that he takse the high minded arrogant role when convenient, and then all of a sudden taken aback when challenged.
What specific candidate, party, leader, platform would he or she support? Who would be their political allies in the Senate and house? How would they get legislation passed? What legislation?
If there's such great fear of the Democratic ( which I'm not crazy about either, for other reasons) health care plan, then where were the conservatives and Republicans on this when they were in charge?
I too appreciate the cute nursery poem.
And to my libertarian Ron Paul fan just how would he get things done if by some fantasy moment he did win the Presidency? It doesn't happen from that office alone despite it's significant power. That''s evident by the current debate.
Now we can go on all day with cute one on ones about who thinks they're quicker smarter and capable of out doing one another on posts.
I'm still in support of health care for all. Medicare for all, A right. I still believe it's in the best interest of the country, it's security and it's economy.
Security, because it's strengthens the nation as a strong unified caring community that gives it greater credibility in pushing human rights issues everywhere from China to Russia and to the few Mid East nations we do business with. Not to mention that the collective physical well being of our citizens is good business for everyone. National health care, universal, or single payer removes one factor from that which always makes the economy unstable in a capitalist system. And that is bankruptcy. Personal bankruptcy due to medical emergency because of incomplete or no insurance is number one for citizens.
As to the question of tax payers, the deficit and draining our future generations. I agree that it's a significant matter. The question is then raised as to whether there is any role for considering the collective good, even in a capitalist system with taxation that strengthens us without jumping to the conclusion that it's a path toward creating a socialist state. I think there is. And it is evidenced by things we've lived with for years from local school tax , Medicare, Medicaid and the VA.
Again, it's shades of grey. It's entirely possible to have some role for government while not empowering it beyond it's means, thinking it's the answer to all or fearing some fascist or socialist tyranny.
