Well firstly, the GOP "plan" was reported. Of course if you use FOX or ABC talk radio as a resource for what other media is doing, you wouldn't know that.
Secondly, it's not a plan. It's a reaction or counter to the Obama plan. If not for the current administration, there would be no so called GOP plan. Where was it 2 years ago? Where was it during Bush I and Reagan? It wasn't there, even when they had the votes. What's most important for the GOP, conservatives and LaRouchers and Paulies is they have regular opposition to Obama. If Obama wanted to hand out rifles at their homes and end all regulation on all matters, they'd still be opposed. If he pulled every program for anyone, they'd still be opposed.
The zeal for simply opposing, and some sophmoric desire for Bush bashing payback has not only blinded the fanatical legions of Beckers, Limbergers, and Hannitoon lunes that they've lost sight of their alleged moral love of country. The reason the GOP doesn't have support on this issue and why most Americans across the board favor a public option despite the child's song our friend in New Hampton likes, is because it is child's play.
The GOP and conservatives are simply reactive. Not forward thinking or creative. If they were, then a couple of things wouldn't be as they are.
For one, they would have utilized Bush's political capital in that post 9-11 period and with strong congressional support, actually did something on health care. But they didn't. They were pre-occupied with invading a country for non existent WMD, forcing the Dems to go along ( which admittedly was lame), for fear of seeming unpatriotic, and then spent us into a depression by once again accusing the voices of opposition of not supporting the troops or a sitting President during war time.
Conservatives were bogged down with unfounded inane fears of gun confiscation, a Muslim Presidential candidate in their eyes, and the fabrication of a socialist state if somehow the government actually does something for the people.
Ok. so your boy Reagan taught you that government is bad. Good for you. you believe liberals think government is the answer to all. False.
Once more the fear of moving forward just like the other great changes this nation had to engage, is not only unfounded, but it's roots are in selected ignorance.

Social security took years to get right. Many amendments were passed to adjust it. Like including African Americans, the age, etc. This is the first step, finally, in getting real health care reform on the table. It won't be perfect right at the start. What is?
