I am re-starting my martial arts and self defense group class. This class is free (or by donation) and is open to anyone. Class is now held at the Vassar College athletic center, 2nd floor, Boxing Room, every sunday, 7-9 pm. No uniforms, dress in athletic clothing. We often move the class outside.
DFAP is a martial art focused upon self defense through severely injuring or killing attackers. DFAP combines techniques from Kyokushinkai Karate, Bare Knuckle Boxing, Military hand to hand combat, as well as training with commonly encountered weapons (knives, batons).
This class will focus on training you in the 82 Fundamental Offensive and Defensive techniques of DFAP and their application in self defense. Class will have a strong self defense component, it is not primarily an exercise class. This is beginners’ class, it is do-able by almost anyone of any age (12+) or fitness level. Class will involve being outside, moving around, sweating, breathing hard, and light physical contact.
Most students I have had in the past have had a valid reason to wish to learn to defend themselves, have been attacked, witnessed attacks, have loved ones who were attacked, live, work, or go to school in dangerous parts of town or at night, or simply have an interest in realistic martial arts. If you think “that could never happen to me” then it probably is not the class for you.
You can try your first class without commitment. Try it out! If it is not your thing, I understand. If you do choose to continue training, attend regulary or your progress will be slow. Basically, you get what you put in, and martial arts is a longterm type of thing, a lifestyle.
I teach this class for free with my own time and energy. I enjoy martial arts and I believe everyone has a right to learn to defend themselves. I am actively seeking new students who share the same interest and will put forth dedication and who will represent themselves, the system, the school, and myself in an honorable way, and who wish to add something extremely positive to their lifestyle.
If you are interested in attending the next upcoming class, e-mail me to register. Tell me a little about yourself and your interest (if you don’t include this information, I’ll assume you’re not mentally competent enough to attend). I have never turned down anyone who wished to attend.
Please do not e-mail me unless you wish to attend the next upcoming class and know that you can. I will ignore e-mails that request to reserve a slot beyond the next class date, or refer to “not knowing if they can make it next time but really want to.”
Me: I am 35, I have a degree in Psychology, 18 years experience in several different martial arts. I’m casual and outgoing, I get along great with anyone 20 years older or younger.
Note: I only got put on the college schedule at the last minute, so class is really small now. I don’t mind, since I’m not making any money on this either way, but if you sign up make sure you don’t mind being one of only few for now. This is high quality training, I’ve trained at many many schools in this area since I was a teenager, I teach the best of what I have been taught or developed for my own protection, you won’t find the mix of arts I teach anywhere else and definitely not for free!
